Group project Now compare the people in your table. I will give you five minutes to create the most comparative sentences you can. The group with the most correct sentences gets to go home 5 minutes early.

MAYBE show this Bill: Let’s have the one with chicken. It’s more interesting than the traditional pizza. Pam: But it’s also more expensive. What are Pam and Bill comparing? (a pizza with a chicken and a traditional pizza). Why doesn’t Pam mention the traditional pizza? (Because it is not necessary. She is comparing the pizza with chicken and the traditional pizza). ____ (what would be the full version) It’s also more expensive than the traditional pizza.

Note 3 Comparative adjectives Short adjectives use –er One syllable adjectives cheap- cheaper Two syllable adjectives ending in –y: easy- easier

Comparison mini papers

Note 4 Adjectives can be repeated to show increase or decrease Prices are getting lower and lower. At Crown Pizza, the menu is getting more and more varied. The staff is becoming less and less professional.

Note 5 To use two comparative adjectives to show cause and effect: The better the pizza, the higher the price. Nouns are given in this example because the comparative adjectives better and higher give information about different things: the pizza and the price. The fresher, the better. There are no nouns because both adjectives give information about the same thing: the ingredients.
