What is conservation of energy? Section 3-4

Scientific theory An idea supported by evidence over a period of time.

Law of conservation of energy Energy can change form, energy can move from place to place, but energy can never be LOST, MADE or DESTROYED.

E = mc 2 Prior to 1905, it was thought the law of conservation of energy did not apply to nuclear energy. The sun seemed to produce too much energy. But Einstein proved this in his famous equation. He showed that a small amount of matter could be changed into a huge amount of energy. This is what happens in the sun.
