Warm up Describe the details and terms of Joe Flacco’s contract. Include: Duration Conditions Pay Do you think Flacco is being paid too much? Look into other NFL players contracts and compare. Be prepared to discuss! Fifteen minutes

Promote an Event! Select an upcoming school event of interest to you. (Individual or partner) Create a flier and a brochure (use publisher) for the event. Make sure to include When the event is Entrance fee (if applicable) Location Description of Event Rules Who is allowed to participate

Closure Write a 150 word reflection on the flier and brochure. What went well? What didn’t go well? Was it hard finding information? Ten minutes.

Warm up Review for Chapter 10 Quiz. Use your time wisely! Quiz will be passed out at 7:45 at the latest. I will hand out the quiz early if the classroom gets too loud.

Warm up Review the Priciest Ads article. Do you think the costs for commercials are too high? Why or why not? Ten minutes.

Promotional Plan Promotional Plan- a written, detailed description of how the four elements of promotion – advertising, sales promotion, publicity, and personal selling – will be used. Your plan of attack!

Steps of Promotional Planning 1. Identify the target customers 2. Set promotional goals 3. Develop a promotional budget 4. Select the promotional mix 5. Measure the results

1. Identify the Target Customers Who do you want to buy your product? This step guides the rest of the process, you have to design your plan based off of what your target customers want!

Who is the target customer? Would you purchase the strange items? Who do you think was the targeted customer?

Who is the target customer? 2 Answer the following questions based off your note card: Who do you think was the targeted customer? (tastes, interests, age, gender, income, profession) How would you promote/sell the item? (At least five ways) Be creative! Seven minutes

2.Set Promotional Goals What do you want to get out of this promotion? Set clear, specific goals that are measurable!

Bad Promotional Goal “I want to do well in Sports & Entertainment Marketing” Why is this goal bad? What would you do to improve this goal? Create three new goals for the class (work with your row).

3.Develop a Promotional Budget How much are you going to spend on promotions? Tied to the promotional goals. Common to state budgets as percentage of sales.

4.Select the Promotional Mix Promotional Mix- blending of the promotional elements of advertising, sales promotion, publicity, and personal selling. How do you run your promotion?

5. Measure the Results How effective was the promotion? Quantitative measurement- provides information in terms of numbers or percentages. Qualitative measurement- subjective, depends on interpretation.

Social Networking Social network –the relationships among people, whether casual or close. Viral campaign – Marketing phenomenon that facilitates and encourages people to pass along a marketing message. Uncontrollable after start up Some people use Facebook to measure results of promotions!

Rotten! Select a partner. Go the Rotten Tomato website and select two of the top box office movies (one tomato and one splat). Write five sentences for each movie about what fans said worked/didn’t work. Would you use this website if you made a movie? – Five sentence response. Fifteen minutes.

Warm up Review the article on Oscar Pistorius. Would you want him advertising your product? Why or why not? Be prepared to share!

Warm up Review the Sponsorship article. Select one of the athletes featured in the article and look up sponsorship/endorsements the athlete has. (exclude the highest earner) Make a list of at list six items about the athlete and his/her sponsorships/endorsements. Fifteen minutes.

Sponsorship Sponsorship – underwriting an event for the purpose of gaining positive association for a brand with the event, the participants, and/or the attendees. Sponsor – a person, organization, or business that gives money or donates products and services to another person, organization, or even in exchange for public recognition

Sponsor Activity You own a giant sports store chain and have a good bit of money but you want more. Select and describe three events you would sponsor to gain public recognition. At least three reasons explaining the event, another three explaining why you selected the event. How will the event help your store? Smart Art is a creative way to tackle this assignment

Questionable Sponsorship Turn to page 291 in your textbook and read the marketing myth on college sports. Respond to the Think Critically question individually and be prepared to discuss! Ten minutes

Endorsements Endorsement – a person’s public expression of approval or support for a product or service. Promotional tools, not sponsorships! Has potential to help or harm a business!

Endorsement Restrictions 1. Truthful opinions and beliefs of endorser 2. Endorser must have real experience with product 3. No deceptive or misleading statements. 4. May not be presented out of context or reworded 5. Endorser must use product as long as endorsement runs. 6. If the product changes the endorser must be notified and continue to use and believe in the new version

Warm up Review the event coordinator article. Summarize the main points of the article in three sentences. Come up with five ways to reduce stress for event coordinators. Fifteen minutes! Collage Presentations start right after warm up, pick up your collage now.

Endorsement Activity You will be given a celebrity/athlete to prepare a collage for. Use magazines in the classroom! You have two minute to trade! Put five items the celebrity would be good at endorsing on the collage. Explain why you picked what you picked! At least two points for each product Forty-five minutes! INDIVIDUAL

Cleaning Put your collages by the printer to dry Put all magazines back on the shelf Throw out all trash

Promotional Events Themed events – centered around a specific theme, such as a seasonal theme, and are held on an annual basis. Event coordinator – works with the event’s sponsors to plan the event. Exhibit manager – plans where various types of exhibitors may be set up, rents space to businesses that wish to set up promotional booths, and ensures exhibitors have everything they need for successful setup.

Fourth Quarter How would you promote an event you planned? Come up with, and explain, three ways to promote an event. Ten minutes.
