It could be: a hands-on laboratory investigation using a spreadsheet for analysis and modeling extracting data from a database and analysing it graphically producing a combination of spreadsheet/database work with a traditional hands-on investigation using a simulation (make sure though, that this is open ended and interactive) You may well have qualitative as well as quantitative data.
