Two 1.2m & 0.8m, f/8 Alt/Az telescopes Project STELLA STELLA-I Echelle Spectrograph, R 2kx2k Marconi chip STELLA-II Wide-field imager, 22’ FoV, Strømgren filters 4kx4k STA chip
Project RoboTel RoboTel 80cm copy of STELLA, 50% educational purpose Delivery 03/15 to Potsdam Wide-field imager, 30’ FoV, Strømgren filters 4kx4k STA chip
Current Status: Guiding & Acquisition unit installed (July) STELLA-I Echelle spectrograph first light (07/06) Dry-run of dispatch scheduler (May)
STELLA dispatch scheduling: Split evaluation of merit: 1)Hard constraints: Fullfilled during expected observing cycle 2)Modified merit function: ~ ts j for long-time, g i for short-time behavior.
Example: DI targets
'Gridification' What we need: Service providers to describe telescope capabilities Common target description (RTML) Billing/accounting schema
'Gridification' Good to have: Scheduling for networked resources Schema for specifying observing sequences

XML-based sequence description. Parallel and sequential execution possible. Target data filled in at run-time. Correct handling of unexpected delays. Errors occurring alter the sequence. Sequence definition, details:

Operations (envisioned): Partner: Has time share on STELLA. Partner Representative: Contact person, one per organization. Principal Operator: Responsible for scientific operation. Operator-in-charge: for all-year surveillance. Program PI: PI of individual science program.
Normal Targets PPI responsible for correct target format (XML based). PR monitors granted time share, supplies target to PO. PO puts target in STELLA database. OiC monitors behaviour of new target. Time share evaluated per season.
Quality control OiC monitors status on nightly basis. OiC might disable malevolent targets. OiC informs PR at overboarding telescope load, initiates re-validation. Science data quality within responsibility of PS.
