State the PROBLEM Which type of material will keep the drink hot the longest? OBSERVE Gather information on the problem by using senses & schema. HYPOTHESIS Make a possible solution to the problem. If you use paper cups, then the hot chocolate will stay hot longer than if you use other containers, because most restaurants use paper cups. Scientific method- systematic way to solve problems.

EXPERIMENT Rule out every factor except for the type of container as the cause of the change in temperature of the water Same amounts of water, containers placed in same area, use same type of thermometers Data- recorded observations and measurements. The temperatures of the water could be taken every 5 minutes & recorded in a table and a graph. Analyzing/Recording Data

Temperature (°F) Time (min)StyrofoamCeramicPaper

Conclusion Compile data. Evaluate the results. Write a summary describing the overall outcome. The summary may lead to additional testing. Examples: Was my hypothesis correct? How could I improve the experiment? What are other things I can test that are related to this experiment?
