Dementia Intelligence briefing & data: Reasons why people with dementia are admitted to a general hospital in an emergency – analysis of inpatient HES dataset Data sources via website 2 National Mental Health, Dementia and Neurology Intelligence Network

Key Messages: 48% increase in emergency admissions involving people identified as having dementia since 2008/ % of admissions for potentially preventable acute conditions including disease of the urinary system, pneumonia and lower respiratory infections 26% of emergency admissions involving PwD were short stay admissions (one night or less) 16% of all emergency admissions of PwD and 18% short stay emergency admissions related to injuries including to head, hip or thigh National Mental Health, Dementia and Neurology Intelligence Network
