In North Carolina, standardized testing is an integral part of the educational experience of all students, and the Testing Code of Ethics applies to everyone involved. TESTING CODE OF ETHICS TRAINING

TEST ADMINISTRATION NORTH CAROLINA TESTING CODE OF ETHICS Test administrator and proctor present in the room at all times Cannot clarify questions, provide synonyms, or indicate answers to students Directions read exactly as written in the script Report all irregularities Provide a positive test-taking climate

UNETHICAL TESTING PRACTICES NORTH CAROLINA TESTING CODE OF ETHICS Encouraging students to be absent during testing Encouraging students not to do their best because of the purposes of the test Using secure test items for instruction Changing student responses at any time Modifying student records

SANCTIONS- EMPLOYEE LETTER If a misadministration is declared and is the fault of a school staff member – Principal must write a letter documenting the incident and impact on students and give to employee – Place in the employee’s file at school – Include employee’s name and OTISS irregularity # – Copy of letter sent to Employee Relations for inclusion in the employee’s file

PREPARE THE TESTING ENVIRONMENT -Make sure all windows on doors are uncovered -Post “Testing – Do Not Disturb” sign on each door -Walls and desks must be clear of test taking tips and content -Desks facing the same direction Clocks must be at the front of the room where students can see -Space student desks

PROHIBITED ITEMS Electronic Devices  Any student observed with a cell phone/electronic device on their person during testing or breaks must be dismissed from testing  Call office for Ms. Smith to report to your room. Personal Belongings  Students’ personal belongings should be placed under their seat or at the back of the classroom. No access to personal belongings is permitted during testing Testing Aids  No textbooks, reference books, wall charts, study guides, reference charts, etc. may be present during any test administration Food and Drink  Unless approved for medical reasons

PLAN AND CCRAA TRAINING PLAN TEST DATE- OCTOBER 7, 2015

WHAT IS PLAN? -Provides a Pre - assessment of academic progress toward college and career readiness when used with the ACT -Designed to help 10 th grade students make decisions about their future -Helps to identify skills and knowledge required to succeed in college, areas needing extra help, and career areas that match student’s interest -Provides an estimated ACT score, as well as information about college and financial aid choices PLAN

Early Release Day- Student Day 7:15- 11:15am

PLAN GENERAL INFORMATION Initial Test Date: Wednesday, October 7 th Make-ups can happen from October 7 th – 20 th ! Pay attention to s. The Test Administrator must not be a relative/guardian of any student testing in his/her assigned room. Testing Time: approximately 3 ½ hours PLAN

BEFORE TESTING: MORNING CHECK-OUT 6:45am- Pick up time  Meet in 900 Building Workroom  Brief Testing Session and Sign-In for everyone involved!!!  You will be required to count all materials, so come early! 6:45- 7:00am- Check your accommodations  Be prepared to tell students where to go 7:15am- Everyone reports to 1 st period  All 1 st period teachers will use the Google homeroom document to notify 10 th grade students where to go during testing. 7:30am- Wait for announcement to dismiss 10 th grade students. Only dismiss the students when you hear the announcement. By 8am  BEGIN TESTING! BEGIN TESTING! PLAN

WHAT’S IN YOUR BIN? Labeled with Homeroom teacher’s name Roster CHECKLIST to follow closely Administrator’s manual to read instructions verbatim Test books Answer sheets Pencils Plastic bags Accommodation Materials (if applicable) White envelopes Testing sign for your door PLAN Section Timing Chart PLAN Retrieve bin at 6:45am- Building 900 Workroom

TEST DAY 10/7/15 -Collect electronics at the door using white envelopes -Identify and admit students  Utilize roster to confirm students Direct students to seats  Alphabetical (Left / right and front / back) -No late arrivals -No cell phones or other electronic devices -Other than permitted calculators, students are not allowed to have in their possession or to use a cell phone or any other electronic device at any time during testing, including breaks. Automatic Misadministration PLAN

DURING TESTING MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW THE NORTH CAROLINA TESTING CODE OF ETHICS! Secure test questions and instruction cannot be provided on test day. Be sure to follow the directions in the manual. I will review the places to highlight with teachers administering the test. Only the test administrator can read test directions. Proctors can help distribute materials. Actively monitor the entire classroom. Be sure no students are working on other sections of the test; be sure students are aligning answer with questions. If a student needs to use the restroom, the hall monitor can escort him/her. Only send one at a time. Administrators and proctors should not cause distractions, read books, grade papers, use computers or cell phones, etc. Do not entertain students who refuse to test. Simply alert a hall monitor to have him/her removed. Collect his/her test materials, but do not disturb others. PLAN

ACCOMMODATIONS All teachers should check their rosters. Some students have an IEP and is eligible for accommodations. Have your proctor escort those students to the locations listed ASAP. Do not send test materials. They are already in the designated rooms. PLAN

CALCULATORS -Scientific or graphic calculators & four- function calculators are permitted! -TI-89s and 92s are prohibited! PLAN

TESTING STAFF QUALIFICATIONS Qualifications – for all positions  Proficient in English  Experienced in testing and measurement  A staff member of the school district  Not a relative or guardian of an examinee in their assigned room  Not a private consultant or individual tutor of any examinee in their assigned room Test Supervisor (Testing Coordinator) Room Supervisor (Test Administrator) Proctor (Required for 26 or more students) PLAN

EXAMPLES OF TESTING IRREGULARITIES A student leaves the room or becomes ill during testing. A students fails to follow directions. A student exhibits behavior that disrupts others. A student is observed reading ahead. A test is mistimed. A disturbance occurs that could affect students’ scores. A student questions the validity or accuracy of an item. Defective test booklets or answer folders. Cell phone use or ringing in test session. Other prohibited behaviors in your manual. PLAN

THE STEPS FOR REPORTING IRREGULARITIES Issues or Concerns? Immediately call the main office using the white phone (#) Ms. Smith must report any allegation of a testing violation to the Accountability Office. Only the Office of Accountability has the authority to declare misadministrations. PLAN

AFTER TESTING Test Administrator will call for a Hall Monitor to cover the class. Then bring bin with organized materials to 900 Building Workroom. FOLLOW THE PLAN CHECKLIST!!! For Accommodation Sites, mark the one accommodation code on the back of the answer folder that best describes the accommodation provided. PLAN

BEFORE TEST DAY! Attend Testing Code of Ethics training and turn in required affidavit (signed) Attend PLAN training – TODAY! Access the Supervisor’s Manual Prepare your testing location:  Do you have a working clock that can be seen by all students?  Do you have a working pencil sharpener?  Are the desks all turned in the same direction?  Can you fit 28 students in your classroom?  Have all content and test-related posters been covered?  Is there an open slot in the window of your door? Speak with your 10 th grade students and encourage 95% attendance. PLAN is a part of our accountability. Please offer an incentive for your students. PLAN
