Gurdwara and Langar A Gurdwara is the Sikh place of Worship

Lesson objectives Understand what a Langar is Understand the different features inside a Gurdwara This is a Gurdwara in Liverpool. Can you guess what it used to be before it was Gurdwara?

Design a menu that every person at the party could eat Menu task Imagine you were holding a dinner party for 4 guests. Four of your guests had different dietary requirements (can not eat certain foods) Is a vegetarian - can’t eat meat Is Jewish and can’t eat pork or shellfish (Kosher) Is Muslim and can’t eat pork or shellfish (Halal) Is allergic To fish and can’t eat fish Design a menu that every person at the party could eat My dinner menu 1) Starter 2) Main 3) Desert

Langar – Shared meal An important part of worship in a Gurdwara is called a Langar. A Langar is a shared meal that Sikhs want as many people to join in with as they can. Food is always vegetarian so people from different religions and with different dietary requirements can join in Gurdwara’s always have a large kitchen area where people can eat their meals. Sikh’s who worship at the temple take turns in cooking for everyone else
