DECA Parent Meeting YOUR CHILD WANTS TO GO TO SLC. NOW WHAT?

DECA SLC  What is SLC?  DECA State Leadership Conference  Students write manuals (5-30 pages paper) and prepare presentations to present to a judge in their given category.  When & Where is SLC?  March 4-6, 2016, Virginia Beach

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?  How much with SLC cost?  $250  Includes transportation, 2 night in hotel, and student registration  Food and additional needs are not included

PROJECT DEADLINES  Rough draft of written manuals: November 17, 2015  Final draft of written manuals: December 18, 2015  Final presentation: January 15, 2016  SPECIAL NOTE:  Projects will require work outside of class  Presentation materials will be the responsibly of the student

COMMITMENT  Some class time will be given to DECA SLC participants and they may be exempt from specific in-class assignments  Your commitment to allow them to compete is vital, as backing out may adversely affect their partner(s) and cause them to be required to make up any work they were exempted from

WHAT IF THEY WIN?  If your child advances to the next level they will be invited to attend DECA ICDC  DECA International Career Development Conference  This is the highest level of DECA competition and a huge honor  Your child will have worked extremely hard to get here

DECA ICDC  When & Where is ICDC?  April 22-27, 2015, Nashville, Tennessee  Missing school  They will miss 4 days of school  It is an excused absence (a school field trip)

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?  How much will ICDC cost?  Estimated: $1,000  Includes airfare, 6 night hotel stay, student registration, some entertainment (tickets)  Food and additional needs are not included
