Environmental Protection Agency of Montenegro Environmental Protection Agency (Environmental Protection Agency of Montenegro - Montenegro EPA) was established on by the Decree on Amendments to the Decree on the organization of the State Administration (Official Gazette of Montenegro no.68/08). The Agency has taken over certain responsibilities from the then Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Protection starting from March The Agency has been established in order to effectively perform professional activities related to environmental monitoring, collection and dissemination of data and coordination and management of the national information system of environmental protection. Licensing and inspection are within the competence of the Agency. The main mission of the Environmental Protection Agency is to provide reliable and timely data and information on the state of the environment, necessary for the effective implementation of environmental policy in the state. The Agency aims to make contacts with scientific, professional and public administration institutions, which ensures the collection of environmental data in Montenegro. Faculties, institutes, departments and organizational units at all levels of the state administration, from local governance to state-level institutions are the basis for the effective functioning of the environmental information system. 2

Environmental Protection Agency of Montenegro According to the Environmental Law (Official Gazette no. 48/08), the Environmental Protection Agency of Montenegro has the obligation to create an annual report on the environmental situation in Montenegro. Report on the state of the environment is one of the main documents in this field. The Environmental Protection Agency cooperates primarily with the European Environment Agency (EEA), International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, as well as other international institutions - the European Commission, UNDP. Active cooperation enables the acquisition of experiences that will facilitate the implementation of activities awaiting us in the process of joining the EU. European Environment Agency (EEA) was established in 1990 with a view to gaining insight into the state of the environment in Europe to support the EU environmental policy being developed and implemented by the European Commission. One of the primary roles of the EEA is the establishment of the European Information and Observation Network in the territory of the EEA member states and support for its work in the countries that have applied for membership. Montenegro has the status of a country associate in the EEA. 3

Systematic testing of water quality that realizes sector for test water quality and air of Hydrometeorological Institute is based on the test program of qualitative and quantitative characteristics of water in Montenegro, issued by the competent ministry. Network of stations for the quality of surface water covering 13 streams with 36 measuring profiles of three natural lakes with 11 measuring profiles and coastal seas, including enclosed and port aquatorium with 19 measuring profiles. 4 Monitoring of water

National legislative Water Law- Official Gazette of the Republic of Montenegro, 27/07- implementing 62% of the WFD, Implementation of the Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC, with amend was realized to a large extent making of the Water Law WFD is transposed by 64% according to the third report on the results of transposition of the EU legislative framework in the national system. The expected completion date of transposition is the end of the 2016 th year. 5
