Electronic Sensor Technology, Inc. Where are we Heading?

Electronic Sensor Technology, Inc. Where are we Heading?

Electronic Sensor Technology, Inc. ….. Is technology like Electronic Nose, help in regular monitoring of air pollutants and keeping the environmental pollution in check. The need of the Hour… An Electronic Nose is a vapor analyzer, which provides a recognizable image of specific vapor mixtures (fragrances) containing possibly hundreds of different chemical species. Read about zNose® in detail here.

Electronic Sensor Technology, Inc. 2 key issues with Traditional Electronic Nose Overlap - Sometimes multiple sensors respond to the same vapor Sensitivity - the vapor sample being tested by the array must be shared among each sensor in the array The first U.S. EPA electronic nose concept has not come from a sensor array but rather from a very fast gas chromatograph (GC) and a new zero dead volume integrating GC detector, called the zNose® by Electronic Sensor Technology. zNose® by Electronic Sensor Technology

Electronic Sensor Technology, Inc. zNose®: GC/SAW electronic nose system It measures, individual analyte peak half-width in milliseconds. Every picogram of material is collected on a temperature- controlled quartz crystal. The surface of the quartz crystal also is host to a high Q surface acoustic wave (SAW) interferometer. The SAW resonator produces a frequency proportional to the amount of column effluent deposited on the quartz surface. It derives pattern recognition and a visual fragrance pattern, called a VaporPrint™ from the frequency of the SAW resonator. A VaporPrint™ image allows a complex ambient environment to be viewed and recognized. Read about zNose® in detail here.

Electronic Sensor Technology, Inc. Environmental Pollution Remediation Air Pollution Air pollution and many different types of odors are common pollutants which require monitoring and quantification. The exhaust from automobiles and trucks is an important application. Water Pollution Water pollution occurs where there are leaking fuel tanks or where spills have occurred and organics have entered the aquifers. Water pollution associated with rivers, lakes, and water aquifers represents approximately 60% of the world environmental problems The pollutants in water are volatile, water pollution can be measured simply by testing the headspace vapors above the water Soil Pollution The nose is configured to detect semi-volatile compounds like pesticides, PCBs, and dioxins in soil. Using direct desorbtion or liquid extraction techniques with soil based upon EPA methods provides techniques for evaluating this type of soil contamination. Read about Environmental Solutions offered under zNose®

Electronic Sensor Technology, Inc. The GC/SAW electronic nose participated in the program, that performed flash chromatography, VaporPrint™ imaging, and configuration of custom sensor arrays with user defined alarm levels. zNose® delivered 10 second chromatograms using a patented Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) sensor. It also operated in both the environments - on field as well as in the laboratory. A low-cost GPS receiver for accurately recording the location of each measurement was also integrated as an option. US EPA Environmental Technology Validation (ETV) program Here’s how zNose® can help in adhering to EPA compliances for environmental protection

Electronic Sensor Technology, Inc. Key Observations: The minimum detection levels for 10 common VOCs in air and water were evaluated and the results were as follows US EPA Environmental Technology Validation (ETV) program Performance Validation - The GC/SAW electronic nose is the first to receive validation from the US EPA for environmental monitoring of VOCs in water and PCBs in soil.
