Welcome to the 4 th Grade Meet the Teacher! Lakeshore Elementary

All about Mrs. Santangelo 3 rd year at LSE in 4 th grade Moved to Texas from New York Has a newborn son named Benjamin Enjoys reading, hanging out with family, and visiting family in New York. Has a German Shepherd mix named Abigail and a Retriever Mix named Molly.

All about Mrs. O’Donnell 3 rd year at LSE in 4 th grade. Graduated from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette – Geaux Cajuns! Played collegiate soccer for ULL. LOVES Disney World. Goes at least once a year. Loves to listen to music, drink coffee, be outside, hang with my family, read, and workout.

Specials Due to the size of our school, we are on a 7 day specials rotation. The schedule is posted on my website, and your child should always know what day it is. Please make sure they are wearing close toed shoes for P.E!

Communication We will send out a weekly , typically on Monday, from both teachers. Please check out our up to date websites! Parent/teacher conferences will be in October and as needed. Important back to school information can be found on Lakeshore’s homepage.

Planner Students will have planners to write their homework, school calendar events, 4th grade class events, and reminders in. Please sign that you have reviewed the student’s planner daily. All homework is written on Monday and can be completed throughout the week. It is all due Friday, unless otherwise noted.

Homework Folder Your child’s green homework folder will need to come back and forth to school daily, even if their homework is not due. AR goal sheets, homework, and any urgent notes will be placed in this folder.

Friday Folder Your child’s purple Friday folder will be sent home on Fridays. It will contain graded assignments and progress reports/report cards. Please return empty, except for signed progress reports/report cards, Monday morning.

Absent Notes/Change of Transportation If your child is absent, please send a written note or to homeroom teacher. If we do not receive a written note within 48-hours, the absence is considered unexcused. If your child has a change in transportation, a written note must be given to homeroom teacher prior to 2:30 p.m.

Healthy Snack Your child will have the opportunity to have a healthy snack at 9:25 each day. Please send a healthy, non-messy snack such as: pretzels, crackers, fruit, vegetables, and cereal/granola bars.

Lunch/Recess Due to the size of our school, lunch visitors will now sit at a guest table with their child. Due to the size of our school, recess will only be with partner teams (Santangelo and O’Donnell). Your child will have recess from 1:30 to 1:45.

Dress Code Shorts and skirts must be between the knee and mid-thigh or longer No spaghetti straps, halter tops, or tank tops (use the 3 finger rule) No excessively loose or tight garments No sleeveless shirts for boys No wheeled shoes or flip flops * Check the HISD Handbook for a complete list located on HISD’s website!

Rewards Individual: Leopard spots are earned for being “spotted” with good behavior. At any point, a student can cash in Leopard spots for rewards set by their teacher. Class: A tally will be kept of all the leopard spots earned by the class. Once the class reaches a TBD number of leopard spots, they earn the prize they voted on at a previous date.

Consequences Each homeroom travels with a behavior chart that notes conduct by color. 9-week conduct grade is based on the number of times your student is moved to orange or red. # of orange/red for 9- weeks Conduct Grade 0Excellent 1-3Satisfactory 4-5Needs Improvement 6+Unsatisfactory

Austin Field Trip Fourth grade takes a field trip to Austin, Tx each year. We do not have a date set in stone yet but as soon as we do we will let you know. We travel on Greyhound Buses, departing early in the morning and arriving back in Houston in the late evening. We travel to Capitol and Bob Bollock Museum. Lunch and Dinner are provided. More details to come.

Tutoring Tutorials will begin mid September. Students will be invited into tutorials based on various criteria. Parents will sign a permission slip form Reading tutorials will be on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. Math tutorials will be on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.
