Driving Philosophy Behind the DSHS Academies T he concept of Dripping Springs High School Academies was developed to address academic rigor, relevance of instruction and to build strong and supportive relationships between students, teacher, and the community.

Academic LevelsAcademic Levels  Each Academy allows students to take any combination of the 4 academic course levels that DSHS offers:  Regular Curriculum  Pre-Advanced Placement Curriculum (+10 pts)  Advanced Placement (+15 pts)  College Dual Enrollment (+10 pts)

College Early Start Program  Students must be at least classified as a junior  Students must meet college readiness standards  Students can take 6 hours of courses per semester  DSHS Cohort Groups  12 hours per year  Tuition free  Student only pay for the textbook

Programs of StudyPrograms of Study  Within each academy will be programs of study. The programs show a sequence of courses that link together providing students an opportunity to gain a deep understanding of academic concepts and how they apply to post-secondary aspirations. There can be multiple “Programs of Study” depending on the Academy. 

GPA  The cumulative unweighted grade point average of all grades on a students academic history or transcript. The unweighted GPA will be placed on a 4 point scale. Refer to page 6 of the DSHS “Planning for the Future Guide for a complete definition of GPA

Rank in Class Average (RICA)  The rank in class average (RICA) is the cumulative weighted numerical average of final semester grades earned in all core classes, as well as, additional Advanced Placement courses.  Core is defined as all classes that count as a students required, English, Science, Social Studies and Mathematics.  Refer to page 6 of the DSHS “Planning For the Future Guide for the entire RICA definition
