There are 16 coins in a bank. If the coins are all nickels and dimes and they total $1.05, how many nickels are there? Answer: 11 nickels More Chapter 3 Problems

The number 66 is written as the sum of 2 smaller numbers. One of these numbers is 3 more than twice the other number. Find the larger of the 2 numbers. Answer:45

More Chapter 3 Problems Adam can do a job in 10 days, while Brenda takes 15 days to do it. After Brenda works alone for 3 days, Adam and Brenda work together to finish the job. How many days did Adam work? Answer: 4.8 days

More Chapter 3 Problems A train, x meters long, traveling at a constant speed, takes 20 seconds from the time it first enters a tunnel 300 meters long until the time it completely emerges from the tunnel. One of the stationary ceiling lights in the tunnel is directly above the train for 10 seconds. Find x. Answer: x=300

More Chapter 3 Problems 25 women did 1/5 of a job in 8 days. Then, because of an emergency, it became necessary to complete the job in the next 20 days. How many additional women are needed to be added to the crew of 25 to accomplish this? Answer: 15

Number Sense time! The 11 trick: Write down the last digit of the number. Add the last digit to the number to its left. Write this number down, carry if necessary. Moving left, keep adding the digit to the digit to its left. Write down the numbers, carrying if necessary. When you reach the first digit write this number down, or add to the carried number. Examples: 25x11=275, 657x11=7227

Number Sense Time The 101 trick: 2 digit numbers: Just write the number twice 45x101 = digit numbers: carry 1 digit 231x101: 23331

Number Sense Time Adding and Subtracting any fractions: a ± c = ad ± bc b d bd Just plug in all of the numbers Example: 4/9 +1/8 = 41/72

Number Sense Time Solving …..n n = n (n+1) ….10 = (10x11)/2 =55

Number Sense Time FOIL but reversed Last, Outer, Inner, First For all 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication 23x52 can be rewritten as (20+3) x (50+2) 1. Multiply the ones digits together (or the last digits). ‘L’ 2. Multiply the inside numbers and the outside numbers and add them together. ‘O’ + ‘I’. 3. Multiply the tens digits together (or the first digits). ‘F’ 4. Putting these steps together we get an answer in the form : ‘F’ (‘O’+’I’) ‘L’ or FOIL. 5. Keep track of any numbers you need to carry to add to any of these steps. Got it?

KAHOOT TIME!
