Where do we start?  The Division of Environmental Health chose IBEAM, the standard for application development within NCDENR IBEAM = Internet Based Enterprise Application Management system

IBEAM is a framework  Provides a standard environment including:  Java Programming  Secure Servers  Internet delivery  Oracle Database

What do we do?  Do-It-Yourself Analysis and Design to craft custom-made software based on our business processes  In the past, we often hired consultants. They would come in, learn our business, build their vision of what we needed, and then go away  Now the knowledge and the documentation stay with us

How do we get there?  Develop an I-BEAM “Notebook”, which is a documented “roadmap” for:  Analysis  Design  Development

What’s in “The Notebook”?  Scope Document  Process Flow Diagrams  Screen designs using Dreamweaver  Use Cases  Business Rules  Data Model/Data Dictionary

When it’s all said and done  Notebook completed  System built  User Manual created  New system tested  Users trained and using the system  Everybody’s happy!
