Date: 8th – 9th May 2012 Location: QNCC Audience: 3000 guests Guest of Honor: Her Highness Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser Brief: Celebrating the annual senior convocation of the different university campuses under the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development. Highlighting the growth of Qatar Foundation, Education City celebrates the fifth annual convocation of eight university campuses under the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF). The event brought together all Education City graduates to mark their accomplishments as they embark on a new phase and become loyal alumni of, and ambassadors for, not only their universities but of Education City and the wider Qatar Foundation as a whole. It is testament to the valuable work of QF partner institutions: Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ), Northwestern University in Qatar (NU-Q), Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies (QFIS), Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar (VCUQatar), Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar (WCMC-Q), Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q), Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales de Paris in Qatar (HEC-Q) and Georgetown University (GU). Nearly 370 students making up the class of 2012 graduated this year, an increase of around fifty percent from last year. QMDI was tasked in delivering the Convocation since the first convocation held in 2008 from design concept to production. The students received rings from QF VP for Education Dr. Abdulla bin Ali Al Thani and then proceeded to the traditional walk through the Door to the Future, symbolizing their passage from QF universities to the next stage of their lives. Date: 7th – 9th May 2013 Location: QNCC Audience: 3500 guests Guests of Honor: Her Highness Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser and Wikipedia founder Jimmy Donal Wales Brief: Celebrating the annual senior convocation of the different university campuses under the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development. Highlighting the growth of Qatar Foundation, Education City celebrates the sixth annual convocation of eight university campuses under the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF). The event brought together all Education City graduates to mark their accomplishments as they embark on a new phase and become loyal alumni of, and ambassadors for, not only their universities but of Education City and the wider Qatar Foundation as a whole. A total of 437 students graduated this year. The students received rings from Dr Abdulla bin Ali Al Thani, President of Hamad bin Khalifa University and Vice President of Education at Qatar Foundation before they did the traditional walk through the ‘Door to the Future,’ symbolising their passage from QF universities to the next stage of their lives. Jimmy Wales Founder of Wikipedia, delivered the keynote address to the graduates. He stressed the need for taking risks and innovative actions to address the needs of the world through an inspirational speech. The Qatar Leadership Academy performed the Qatar National Anthem and the Education City Anthem alongside Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra and Children’s Choir of the Al Jazeera Children’s Channel on the occasion.
