Principal SHAC Programs 5 Bachelor Degrees + General Studies + Honours: –Bachelor of Arts (BART) TWB and DE –Bachelor of Communication (BMCM) TWB and DE –Bachelor of Human Services (BHUS) Fraser Coast and Springfield and DE –Bachelor of International Studies (BIST) TWB and DE –Bachelor Social Science (BSSC) TWB and DE –Bachelor of General Studies (BGEN) Fraser Coast and TWB –Bachelor of Arts Honours (BAH) TWB and DE

Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Communication Significant changes to the BART and the BMCM Restructured to allow clearer choice: BMCM = broad training in communication specialty BART = increased flexibility across the spectrum from discipline specialty to wide ranging breadth studies Both still fully available externally = greater flexibility for local students who have to work

Bachelor of Arts Features Choice of Majors = Anthropology, Communications, Creative Media, English Literature, History, International Relations, Journalism, Language (German, Indonesian, Mandarin), Public Relations, and any area of Creative Arts More new Majors to be added Coming soon = capacity to develop Extended Majors Coming soon = flexibility to add any non-Arts Major to broaden scope of degree Tailor degree to suit career pathway

Bachelor of Communication Features Currently the program includes: Journalism Public relations Communication and media studies Creative media Being reaccredited to give students more choice – study majors in an extended mode (12 credit points) and take majors and minors from other programs within the Faculty and outside the Faculty of Arts.

BART / BMCM Highlights Articulation into Honours and Higher Degree studies Extended Major in Anthropology = professional path State of the art distance language program (German) Public Relations accreditation with PRIA Learn on the job, internships, overseas exchange, cross-institutional study Awards for Journalism (Wylie award) and Public Relations (PRIA award) Journalists get placements (student not yet finished recently appointed as rural reporter for ABC)

Bachelor of Human Services (Counselling) Enhanced understanding of issues in the community sector (general study) + theoretical framework for professional counsellors (vocational) Several TAFE Diplomas gain advance standing Work experience or job training may gain exemption (recognition of prior learning – RPL) Choice of minors including Child and Family, Psychological Studies, and Indigenous Studies. Recognised training provider by the Australian Counselling Association

Bachelor of International Studies International Relations Core Choice of Arts Majors and Business Majors: Administrative Management, Human Resources Management, Logistics and Operations Management, Management and Leadership, Marketing, Supply Chain Management and Tourism Management Language requirement = 2 courses of language Two recent recipients of ANIP Canberra internships Work with DFAT, NGOs, aid organisations

Bachelor of Social Science New degree Work on social issues in journalism, teaching, market research, policy making, travel writing, psychology Study political science, psychology, sociology, anthropology, law, history, international relations, peace studies, environmental studies, indigenous studies... Pathways to Study Pathways to study at USQ: Entry via QTAC to main programs Entry via Diploma of Arts (on-campus Toowoomba & Fraser Coast) –OP for S was 20 –8 courses to complete (1 core + 7 electives) Entry via Bachelor of General Studies –Available on-campus at Fraser Coast and Toowoomba –Students can apply for Toowoomba and then enrol in courses on- campus at Springfield –OP for S was 20 –At the end of the first year students can apply to transfer to another degree at USQ (via direct entry)
