OPERATIONAL DEFINITIONS What is???? Waste management is the generation, prevention, characterization, monitoring, treatment, handling, reuse and residual disposition of solid wastes. Waste is material that is not wanted; the unusable remains or byproducts of something. Recycle is to convert (waste) into reusable material. Carbon Footprint is the amount of carbon dioxide and other carbon compounds emitted due to the consumption of fossil fuels by a particular person, group, etc.

Cafeteria Waste Management Plan A recycle bin will be placed at each school for the school year. There will be three sections to the bin, aluminum, plastic and cardboard. Cafeterias will follow the procedure below: When #10 cans or any size aluminum can is emptied the can is to be washed out and placed in the aluminum section. Empty plastic jars are to be washed out and placed in the plastic section Boxes that supplies and food come in are to be broken down and placed in the cardboard section. The lead custodian will be responsible for contacting the company for pick up. Cafeteria Manager will contact the lead custodian when there is overflow.

ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.9 CUSTODIAL DUTIES FOR RECYCLING DISTRICT WIDE All custodians will empty all recycling bins in classrooms to a central portable bin and transport to the outside recycle dumpster. All custodians shall sort all plastics, paper and metal from refuse and properly discard to recycle dumpster. Lead custodians will be responsible for calling the recycle company and having the dumpster emptied as needed. Lead custodian will appoint a person under his/her management to follow all over site duties should the lead be away from the district. Lead custodian will report any classroom personnel not properly sorting recyclables to the principle or his/her designee for instructional help. All custodians will be properly trained at the annual work conference as to the current rules for handling recyclables. Proper sanitation will be maintained throughout the complete process from beginning to end. Custodians will support all kitchen staff for recycling but kitchen staff will maintain recycling procedures in the food service areas.
