Fun with Fractions Lesson by: Karissa DiPillo 4 th Grade Math Continue to Main Menu

Less Than and Greater Than AdditionSubtraction Equal to or Equivalent Continue to questions! Check out these helpful hints!  Then continue to the questions!

Less Than If both of your Denominators are the same…. ¼ < ¾ If both your Numerators are the same.... ¾ > ⅜ Greater Than Think of it like the alligator eats the greater Denominator! Think of it like the alligator eats the greater Numerator! Which is Greater? Back to the Main Menu

Subtraction How to subtract with the same denominator! Subtract the top numbers Keep denominator the same Simplify if needed Examples: ⅚ - ⅙ = 4/6 7/12 – 4/12 = 3/12 Back to the Main Menu

Addition How to add with the same denominator! Make sure denominators are the same Add top numbers Simplify if needed! Examples: 1/4 + 3/4 = 4/4  then simplified is 1! 2/5 + 1/5 = 3/5 Back to the Main Menu

Equal to or Equivalent Equivalent means same, so equivalent fractions means the same fraction. See these examples and learn how these fractions are the same! Examples: 1. 1/2 = 5/10  these are equal because 5 is half of 10 and the other fraction is 1/2 so if you reduce 5/10 it would be 1/2! 2.3/6 = 4/8  these are equal because if reduced they equal 1/2! 3.4/6 = 8/12  these are equal because if you reduce them they both equal 2/3! Back to the Main Menu

Equal to or Equivalent Questions! Which Fraction is greater? Which one will the alligator eat?! Pick your Answer! 1.1/5 3/5<> 2. 7/9 5/7<>

Good Job! You got the right answer! Yes in fact 1/5 is less than 3/5!!! Back to the Equals to Questions

Try Again! Think about what the alligator wants to eat! Remember the greater number! To go back to the Question 

Great Job!!! 7/9 is greater than 5/7!! Continue to Subtraction Questions! Subtraction questions!

Subtraction Question! Subtracting with like denominators: Pick your Answer! 15/5 – 11/15 = ? 3/5 10/5 4/53/510/54/5

Great Job!!!! You did great with the subtraction problem! Go ahead to the Addition Question!

Good Try! You are so close! Keep going you almost got it! To go back to the subtraction Question! 

Addition Question! Adding with a like denominator: Pick your Answer! 6/10 + 3/10 = ? 9/10 7/10 3/10 11/10 9/107/103/10 11/10

AWESOME JOB!!!! You did awesome with that addition question! Go on to the Equivalent Question!

So Close!!! You are almost there! Take your time and answer the question carefully! To go back to the Addition Question! 

Equivalent Fraction Question! Are these two fractions Equivalent? 3/6 = 6/12 Yes, they are equal No, they are not equal

YOU ROCK!!!!!! YOU FINISHED ALL THE QUESTIONS! YOU GET A GOLDEN STAR!!! Click the pencil to go back to the Main Menu!  Go back to the First Slide

You Can Do It!! You are so close I can smell it! Keep trying just one more try!! To go back to the Question! 
