POINT An exact location in space, marked by a dot and named using a letter..C.C.A.A.B.B

END POINT The point(s) at the end of a ray or line segment.. A B

LINE SEGMENT A straight line with definite end points Named: AB or BA ____.. A B

LINE A straight line that goes on forever in both directions Named: AB or BA.. A B

RAY A straight line with one definite end point that goes on forever in one direction Named: AB (CAN NOT BE BA).. A B

PARALLEL Lines, Line Segments or Rays that are the same distance apart everywhere. They will never meet... A B.. C D Named: CD||AB

Perpendicular Lines, line segments, or rays that intersect and form one or more right angles at the intersection. AB _I_ DC A B CD

INTERSECTING Lines, line segments or rays that are NOT the same distance apart everywhere. They meet or will meet at some point... A B.. C D

Angle, Vertex, Sides Side Vertex Angle The measure of the space between two lines, rays or line segments. The point where sides intersect. Angles are measured around the vertex.

Degrees The unit of measure for angles. There are 360 degrees in a full circle. A degree is 1/360 th of a circle.

RIGHT ANGLE A 90 degree turn to the right or the left. or

TYPES OF ANGLES - Obtuse – larger than 90 degrees - Acute – less than 90 degrees Obtuse Acute

TRIANGLE -Two dimensional - 3 Vertices, 3 Sides, 3 Angles Named: ABC, ACB, BCA, BAC, CAB A C... B

TYPES OF TRIANGLES - Acute triangle – all interior angles are acute - Right triangle – has an interior right angle - Obtuse triangle – has an interior obtuse angle Acute triangle Right triangleObtuse triangle

QUADRILATERALS -Two dimensional - 4 Vertices, 4 Sides, 4 Angles Named: BACD, CABD, DBAC, etc D.... C BA

Square - 4 equal sides - 4 equal angles Rhombus - 4 equal sides - opposite sides parallel - need not have square corners Rectangle - 2 pairs of equal sides - 4 right angles Trapezoid - only 2 sides parallel - parallel sides not equal Kite - 2 pairs of adjacent equal sides - opposite sides are not equal TYPES OF QUADRILATERALS Parallelogram - 2 pairs of parallel sides

POLYGONS - A shape with “many” sides - The sides remain connected - No side crosses another side -Regular Polygon has equal sides and equal angels Named: ABCDEF, AFEDCB, etc F.... C B A.. E D

PREFIXES poly = manyocta = 8 penta = 5nona = 9 hexa = 6deca = 10 hepta = 7 SUFFIX -gon = angle

SYMMETRY A line that cuts a shape in half, where each side of the line is exactly the same Only 1 line of symmetry 4 lines of symmetry
