Page No. 2 Pre-decisional, For Internal Use Only Definition/Background Data storage requirements for devices on the ISS Network have grown and the data storage capabilities need expansion to support users –High definition imagery and video storage supporting crew operations have increased data storage needs –Payloads also require more storage capacity to record experiment data A dedicated Network Attached Storage (NAS) System will support growth in data storage and retention requirements as well as provide easy system backup and additional data redundancy The QNAP (Quality Network Appliance Provider) NAS selected has 5 hard drive bays that provides 20 terabytes of raw disk space when used with 4 terabyte hard drives The drives are hot swappable and redundant when used in a RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) configuration making the usable approximately 12 terabytes storage

Page No. 3 Pre-decisional, For Internal Use Only Pre-Increment Ops` Payload Users –Define NAS use as part of the Payload Integration Agreement (PIA) –Have access to Ku-band IP Service Storage Allocation –Each payload will initially receive ~10GB of storage space –If a payload requires additional onboard storage a request will need to be submitted to the Increment Lead DMC Storage Creation –DMC will configure and provision each Payload Volume at the start of the increment to the requested storage space Schedule –Tentatively scheduled to fly onboard SpaceX-7

Page No. 4 Pre-decisional, For Internal Use Only Increment Ops` Payload NAS Utilization –Initiate session with NAS for file upload/download Https Storage Protocols: Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI), Network File System (NFS) Utilize NAS as a boot device –Preboot eXecution Environment (PXE) –Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) DMC will monitor NAS utilization statistics and performance characteristics Payload NAS Support –NAS access issues for NAS (i.e. accounts, payload volume)

Page No. 8 Pre-decisional, For Internal Use Only Increment Ops (Cont.) DMC will monitor NAS utilization statistics –DMC should be able to enable SNMP on the NAS to the Network Monitoring System (CR 13614) –User allocations will be static, so this will not need constant attention –If SNMP is not available, DMC will investigate using a Ku Forward connection during all Ku-band AOS timeframe to access COTS display DMC will support account access issues for NAS –Some scenarios: The user has a valid HPEG session and cannot access their storage mapping due to incorrect username/password issue with the NAS The user wants to change a password
