Presentation transcript:

Mission American You have arrived. Lights flash, people surround you, you hear mumbles of unclear sounds as you detect a foreign language. Should you go left? Right? Who can help you? Where should you go? You need to find other Americans who can assist you in your mission. How can you describe America to these foreigners?

Celebrities

Campbell’s Soup Cans 1962 Recognizable every day consumer items being presented as art. Mocking our society or celebrating our society of consumerism?

Coca-Cola “What's great about this country is that America started the tradition where the richest consumers buy essentially the same things as the poorest. You can be watching TV and see Coca-Cola, and you know that the President drinks Coca-Cola, Liz Taylor drinks Coca-Cola, and just think, you can drink Coca-Cola, too. A Coke is a Coke and no amount of money can get you a better Coke than the one the bum on the corner is drinking. All the Cokes are the same and all the Cokes are good. Liz Taylor knows it, the President knows it, the bum knows it, and you know it. “ By understanding how business, marketing and the consumerist culture of America works he was able to capitalize on it. Using his personality and the “Factory” to catapult himself to a new level of society he created a new genre of art and what it can mean to be an artist. Warhol was interested in -being famous -making money -Artistically experimenting
