CAPACITORS, DIODES & SCRS Electronics Mr. Engel

CAPACITOR: DIODE: SCR: NEW SYMBOLS:

Capacitance: the ability of a circuit to store electric energy. How? Two conductors (plates) separated by an insulator (dieletric). Long lead +Short lead – (A+)(C-) CAPACITOR

Gate: lets current pass through it in only one direction. How? Pure Silicon body with half Arsenic and half Indium. (N-Material)(P-Material) Stripe or short lead – No stripe or long lead + DIODE

Silicon-Controlled Rectifier: controllable diode that only conducts when given positive voltage to its gate. How? Four layers of P and N material create gate. SCR only allows current to pass when gate is given positive voltage. Beveled end – gate Opposite end – Cathode (C-) Middle – Anode (A+) SCR

CAPACITORS STORE POWER Like? DIODES ONLY ALLOW ONE WAY Like? SCRs ONLY ALLOW ONE WAY (WHEN TURNED ON) Like? REVIEW
