SIR. ISAAC NEWTON AND DR. ALBERT EINSTEIN 2 ND AND 8 TH PERIOD ELAR
BOOKS I READ I read “Isaac Newton, Organizing the Universe,” By: William J. Boerst. ©2004 I also read “Albert Einstein, Giants of Science,” By: Boris Kulikov. ©2009
QUOTES AT THE BEGINNING “I do not know what I may seem to the world, but, as to myself, I seem to have been only like a boy playing on the seashore, and diverting myself in now and then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me.” – Sir Isaac Newton Page 11 of Isaac Newton “If I have seen further (than other people) it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” – Sir Isaac Newton Page 10 of Albert Einstein

FUN INFORMATIO N
CHILDHOOD Newton He was born December 25, Isaac’s father died in October, months before Isaac’s birth. His mother married Isaac’s step father, Barnabas Smith when he was three. The step father did not like Isaac and forced him to live with his grandparents in Woolsthorpe. His grandparents did not like him at all. He was often wandering around thinking and could be seen in trees gazing south. He lived eight years of his life in solitude with his grandparents. When his mother retuned, Isaac had to compete with his half-siblings; they were Benjamin, Mary, and Hannah. Einstein He was born March 14, 1876, pi day. His dad and uncle owned a gas and electric supply company. He was always thinking about new stuff. Einstein had a bit of trouble talking. His mother wanted to teach Einstein how to be self sufficient. She would drop Einstein off at a bus station and leave him, he would need to find his way home. Einstein loved to play with toys, he would find out how they worked.
SCHOOL Newton When Newton was a young boy he went to King’s school. The teachers saw Newton’s intelligence. He was at the top of the class, but was always distracted, and looking out the window. He was taught mathematics which was rare at that time. Newton made a lot of objects that helped him in some way during these years. One of them was a paper lantern he would carry, it was said that he flew it on a kite to scare the townsfolk. After 5 years of school, his mother wanted Newton to become a farmer. Newton often did not do his chores, his mother sent him away. Newton was enrolled in Trinity College, at Cambridge University in the year There Newton spent time learning and got his master’s degree. Einstein When Einstein was a young boy he went to a Catholic school although he was Jewish. He spent three years there before switching to Luitpold Gymnasium. Einstein was at the top of his class even though he had to put up with bullying, harsh teachers, and the atmosphere of a military school. He taught himself some things because his parents got him text books early. Einstein got help from a tutor, Max, when he was ten. He quit Luitpold three years be for he graduated. The Einsteins moved to Italy. Then Einstein moved to Switzerland for a school that would except him, Zurich Polytechnic. He spent a year in Zurich Polytechnic, he failed French, literature, zoology, and botany. He failed and had to find a new high school be for he retuned. He found a Swiss school that he attended to get his high school degree. He then returned to Zurich Polytechnic, and worked his way up and became Dr. Einstein.

LOVE Newton Newton only had one romance. That was with Mr. Clark’s stepdaughter. Einstein Einstein had two wives over the course of his life. The first marriage was with Mileva Maric, they had three children Eduard, Hans, and Lieserl. Lieserl was lost and is not well known. His second marriage was with Elsa, they did not have any children.
VOCABULARY
ALCHEMY The medieval forerunner of chemistry, based on the supposed transformation of matter. It was concerned particularly with attempts to convert base metals into gold or to find a universal elixir.
E = mc 2 Einstein’s theory that means energy released can be calculated by taking the mass (m) and multiplying it by the speed of light (c) squared. This helped sciences develop the atom bomb.
MINT A building that stamps coins. The mint is in charge of making coins.
ROYAL SOCIETY A group of sciences that are from England. Newton was the head of the society for awhile. They sponsor the printing of scientific papers.
THEORY A work that is not proven but the evidence supports it.
OPINION Newton I think of Newton as a great mind. I think that he wasted some of his potential in math on his other passions. I know now that Newton was a very secretive man. I would like to learn more about his alchemy achievements. I think that the book did a good job providing the information. Einstein Einstein, to me is someone that I look up to. I find it interesting how at age 27 he published something that every one remembers. I want to learn more about this great person. I think that the book did a great job providing information.
