Communities Seeking Partners

Introducing Rukh Kiri Community

Rukh Kiri, Cambodia ABOUT THIS COMMUNITY A dry rural area, 72km from the provincial capital, Battambang. Most people are farmers, but erratic rainfall affects harvests and many are forced to seek work in Thailand. Lack of clean water and toilets and poor health and hygiene practices lead to the spread of diseases. Health services are poor and far from where people live. Education quality is low and many children miss out on school because families cannot afford it and/or it is not seen as a priority. World Vision program activities Improved access to education Improvements to quality of primary school education Training for families on healthcare, hygiene and good sanitation practices Strengthening community leadership to create change Agricultural development

Extreme heat and drought make farming difficult and many adults migrate in search of income opportunities, leaving children without caregivers. Child malnutrition and diseases like diarrhoea, malaria and pneumonia are common. Sanitation and hygiene are poor and many families must walk long distances to fetch water. Schools lack facilities and many parents can’t afford books and uniforms so children often miss out on education. HIV and AIDS is a major problem. World Vision program activities Health education on nutrition and hygiene Immunisation for children Education on HIV and AIDS awareness and prevention Support for water supply and sanitation Educational support and improvements to schools, including after school care, pre- schools and child parliaments Environmental enhancement
