Worship acts or items Talking to God in prayer and praise. Listening to God in Bible reading and proclamation. Communing with God in the Lord’s Supper. Submitting to God in response to this fellowship of worship. (Kerry Anderson, former president of Gospel Advocate.)

Prayer Our desire to express praise, petition and penitence to God. Our goal should be that the will of God is done on earth. Matt. 6:10. The Holy Spirit helps our prayers. Rom. 8:26-27.

Postures or times There are no specified postures or times prescribed in the Bible as a rule for us. But various postures are noted: Standing, sitting, upturned faces, heads bowed, eyes open, eyes closed, kneeling, raised hands, prostrate.

Jesus teaches prayer Matt. 6:5-13; Luke 11:1-4. Not all prayers are acceptable. Pray in the name of (by authority of) Jesus. John 14:13-14; 15:16; 16:24, 26.

Pray for these Adoration and praise, Matt. 6:9. Thanksgiving, Phil. 4:6. Wisdom, Jas. 1:5. Others, 1 Tim. 2:1-2. Deliverance from temptation, Matt. 6:13. Peace, Phil. 4:6-7. Unity, John 17:20-21.

Paul’s prayer Eph. 3:14-21 is a great example of a prayer. Reverence, family, petition, strength, comprehension, know the love of Christ, be full of God. God can do much more than we ask! To God be the glory!
