“Bad Employees” Produce less; cost you more Lazy about work Damage reputation of company Turn off customers Inflict harm on co-workers Cultivate a negative working environment Gossip over working Complain Dishonest Steal from the company

“Average” Employees Complete task but never work harder than what is expected. Work “just for the paycheck.” No passion in their work. Look for someone/something to blame during problematic situations. Do not work until you give them instructions “As long as they get paid, they don’t care about anything else.”

“Good Employees” Intense passion for his/her craft. Look forward to every day at work. They work harder to give more than what is expected of them. Find something good in every situation. Solution-oriented. Craves to learn more; takes advantage of every learning opportunity. Understands and follows instructions. Can work independently and gets along with co-workers. Never lets and employer down. Arrives on time and has good attendance. Honest and positive working attitude. Good leadership skills. High energy level and creative imagination. Flexible and can adapt easily to changes.

I-9 Form Named for number of pages: 9 It is a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Form. Verifies that each new employee is legally eligible to work in the United States. Both employees and employers fill out the form. The employee must also present the employer with acceptable documents evidencing identity and employment authorization. Form must be retained by the employer for at least (3) years after hiring date.

Employers who violate the law may be subject to: civil fines criminal penalties (when there is a pattern or practice of violations) debarment from government contracts a court order requiring the payment of back pay to the individual discriminated against a court order requiring the employer to hire the individual discriminated against

Filling out the I-9 Section 1: filled out by Employee at beginning of employment Section 2: filled out by Employer within 3 days of starting work.

Documentation Needed: (1) thing from List A (Identity AND Employment Authorization)

(1) thing from List B (Identity) Driver's license or ID card issued by a state or outlying possession of the United States, provided it contains a photograph or information such as name, date of birth, gender, height, eye color, and address ID card issued by federal, state, or local government agencies or entities, provided it contains a photograph or information such as name, date of birth, gender, height, eye color, and address School ID card with a photograph Voter's registration card U.S. military card or draft record Military dependent's ID card U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner card Native American tribal document Driver's license issued by a Canadian government authority (For persons under age 18 who are unable to present a document listed above:) School record or report card Clinic, doctor, or hospital record Day-care or nursery school record (1) thing from List C (Employment Authorization) A Social Security Account Number card, unless the card includes one of the following restrictions:* (1) NOT VALID FOR EMPLOYMENT (2) VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH INS AUTHORIZATION (3) VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION Certification of Birth Abroad issued by the Department of State (Form FS-545) Certification of Report of Birth issued by the Department of State (Form DS-1350) Original or certified copy of birth certificate issued by a State, county, municipal authority, or territory of the United States bearing an official seal Native American tribal document U.S. Citizen ID Card (Form I-197) Identification Card for Use of Resident Citizen in the United States (Form I-179) Employment authorization document issued by the Department of Homeland Security AND
