Anti-Bullying Presentation Developed by: Deputy Dalton School Resource Officer

Jeffrey Johnston Stand Up for All Students Act Florida State Statute was signed into law on June 10, 2008 Requires all school districts in the state of Florida to adopt a policy prohibiting bullying and harassment of students and staff on school grounds, school-sponsored events, and through school computer networks.

“It is the policy of the Citrus County School District that all of its students and school employees have an educational setting that is safe, secure and free from harassment and bullying of any kind. The District will not tolerate bullying and harassment of any type”.

What exactly is Bullying? Bullying is UNWANTED, REPEATED and ON-GOING physical, mental or emotional harassment. INCLUDING…

Teasing Social Exclusion Threats Physical Violence Religious, Racial or Sexual Harassment Stalking Public Humiliation Theft Intimidation Destruction of Property

Teasing and Social Exclusion Teasing: Making fun of someone playfully or unkindly. Social Exclusion: Purposely leaving someone out of “the group”. Eww.. Look at the clothes she’s wearing She’s not aloud to sit at OUR table… Hey look at him… I’ve never seen someone so ugly… LOSER! He’s such a wimp!

Public Humiliation Gossiping and spreading rumors are forms of public humiliation. (This includes text messages and s) If you don’t have anything nice to say, DON’T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL

Physical Violence, Intimidation & Threats You can not threaten to harm anyone. You can not “pass on” threats to anyone. You can not touch or strike another person against their will. This includes punching, pushing, shoving and smacking. “Better watch your back” He’s gonna get you on the bus ramp… You look at me again and it’ll be the last thing you do…

If you see bullying… Do not laugh or join in Stand by your friends Speak up for the other kid Tell a teacher or staff member Reach out – be a friend If you don’t speak up, you are helping the bully!

Other ways to help yourself and prevent bullying Be assertive Make eye contact Tell the bully to stop Have confidence in who you are Make good friends and stick together Talk to someone you can trust Try to ignore the bully

If you think you are being bullied… You need to tell someone… The school can’t help you if we don’t know what is going on… If you feel one adult hasn’t been able to help solve the problem, tell another or go to your school’s Student Services or Guidance Counselor. Together we can change what is happening!

Telling is not tattling!

Our Expectation of you… Citrus County Schools expect students to conduct themselves appropriately with maturity and proper regard for the rights and welfare of other students and school staff. Students are encouraged to grow in self- discipline and POSITIVE BEHAVIOR.
