Report: Taipei City SARS Epidemic of 2003 The first case of SARS in Taiwan-Area: A Mainland China-based Taiwanese businessman surnamed Chin and his wife were the first cases of both overseas & local infection, as reported locally on March 14, March 14-August 2003 Taipei City-area Hospitals & clinics reported 1539 cases, 157 of which were Taipei City residents Taiwan was removed from the travel alert list announced by WHO on June, 17 th, On July 15, 2003, Taiwan was removed from the epidemic region list

Residential quarantine 26,942 grade A quarantined persons (those with direct contact with potential SARS patients) 13,358 grade B quarantined persons (those returning from epidemic regions) Of all people placed under quarantine, 12 (approximately 0.030%) were diagnosed as potential or suspected SARS cases.
