Ms. Bors

Want to be called something different than your given name? Let me know as I call your name, please.

One of the tasks of consumer psychologists is to determine effective names for products.

Why are there no Ford Chickens or Honda Rodents on the road?

Your task: With your bell work partner, use one of the glossary words from your assigned chapter as a new car model. You can choose which make (e.g., Chevy, Ford, Honda) would use it, what the car might look like (e.g., truck, sports car, luxury car), and an effective slogan that takes into account the psychological term found in the glossary. Do this on a separate sheet of paper, with both of your names on it. Some examples “Honda Hypnotism—this car will mesmerize you!” “The Dodge Dissociative: A sport utility vehicle that can change to a truck” “Ford Placebo: The quality will make you think you are paying a lot, but you really aren’t.”

Pass up what you created, as well as the notecards that were on your desks, please.

Sign off sheet (cut it out) due Friday!

Any questions about me?

Work Quietly and Individually from the time the bell rings until the timer (to your right) stops. Pick up the bell work handout from the side counter before the bell rings. Get started on the bell work right away. Basically, you are to answer the question that is on the bell work handout corresponding to today’s date. Bell work sheets will always be picked up by you on Mondays and collected by me on Fridays! You will need to get completed with the bell work each day when the timer (up top now) stops. Use these as additional study guides before each test and the AP Exam!!! Pass up: Syllabus Sign Off- in rows to whoever is closest to the middle of the room!

Spontaneous Show and Tell

Supplies for this class needed tomorrow!

What’s a pet peeve?

So what is a pet peeve?

Pet peeve: a minor annoyance that an individual identifies as particularly annoying to themselves, to a greater degree than others may find it

Write out a couple of your own pet peeves.

Talk to your bell work partner(s) about what pet peeves you have.

What are your pet peeves?

Can we do it within 30 seconds? Always pass in rows towards whoever is closest to the middle of the room!

Asking to go to the bathroom daily/too often AND asking at the beginning of class (YOU WILL not be allowed to go until you have completed bell work), at the end of class (with 5 or less minutes remaining) OR interrupting the class while doing so

Loud chewing of gum/food One full week of no one breaking this rule= candy for everyone on Friday!

Swinging on your chair/not sitting properly in your chair/feet on the desk, etc.

Not being on task Ex. Getting up from your chair Talking to a neighbor while supposed to be listening

Not looking on the website/asking a friend for what you missed in class

Side conversations

Not listening to directions/instructions

Shouting answers without having been called on/ talking out of turn Questions always invited, but hands need to be raised!

Use of a phone during class while NOT allowed Ex. Gf/bf/friend on the phone while you’re talking- annoying! Phone charging is a NO NO, as well!

NOT asking questions when you have questions and are not sure what you should be doing

Interrupting class by asking about your grades, what you missed in class when you were absent, to ask to go to the bathroom, etc. DURING CLASS

Insubordination= disrespect

Vocabulary Flashcards Directions: You will need to create flashcards for each chapter as your readings are assigned. The words that you will be required to create flashcards for will be written down on the study guide for each particular chapter. Flash cards AND the study guides will ALWAYS be due at the beginning of class on the day of the test for that unit. You will NOT be able to turn them in at any other point for credit. There are no exceptions! Requirements for each vocabulary term flashcard: On the front: the word itself (ex. Psychology) On the back: Definition in your own words (try to make it as short as possible) Something you find interesting about this term Example of this term A mnemonic device to help you remember this term OR a word that will help you remember the definition of this term OR anything else that helps you to remember the definition of this term

Turn in once done in the pink thought of the day bin ALWAYS Needs to be on either note card, sticky note (leave on window by door as you walk out then), or a HALF- SHEET of notebook paper. Always write your name on it, as with any other assignment.

8 th period- place chairs on top of desks please! How do you think you will make sure to do well in this class? Explain. Write your name and ALWAYS explain your answer.

Complete it- the questions will always be on the bell work sheets. Pass up: Syllabus Sign Off-in rows to whoever is closest to the middle of the room! Work Quietly and Individually from the time the bell rings until the timer (to your right) stops.

Class Expectations Class Website Safety Drills Silence is Golden How to Act with a Sub Learning Styles and Multiple Intelligence Inventories and Results HW/ Coming up: Syllabus Sign off due on Friday!!! Reading pg. 3-9 due Friday! Learning Styles and Multiple Intelligence Inventories and their results (included within the inventories) due tomorrow in class! Goal(s): To get back into the swing of things! To be able to understand and practice expectations and rules.

It will be passed around. As it is, write in your name and the textbook number in the space provided. Last person to have it, please place it on my desk (anywhere on it).

Vocabulary Flashcards Directions: You will need to create flashcards for each chapter as your readings are assigned. Instead of paper copies of flashcards, you can opt to get the Flashcards App by Chegg (put that it when looking for it) for iOS or Android. Then, you create your own flashcards (do NOT copy someone else’s set). BEFORE your class starts the day of the test for the unit that the flashcards are due (I would try to do this at least an hour before in case you can’t get to the app), you need to click on your set and then it to

Bring them with you EVERY DAY Sign on the window of the door We do NOT have any extras you can use If we are using our books in class and you do NOT have yours, you will be sent back to your locker and if you do not make it back on time, that will be a SWIPE (tardy)

Need to have one with you every day If you forget one every now and then, you can use the board to borrow one from me. Instructions written on the side of the board. You do NOT have to ask me, just pick one up, if it before class has officially started. If you are writing something down, and something happens to your pencil, then use the hand signal to let me know and I will provide you with a pencil.

MOST IMPORTANT RULE- TIME AND PLACE!

quietly read a book organize your planner or homework sit quietly listen to music quietly do a puzzle work on homework wait patiently

Once the bell has rung you must go and get SWIPED If you are wandering around the class as the bell rings- you will also be asked to go and get SWIPED Meaning: You NEED to be in your seat as the bell rings, with the notebook out, working quietly on the bell work This is NOT time to ask questions about your grade, to go to the bathroom, etc.- YOU will be asked to ask these questions at another, more appropriate time!

Late? Leave pass on my desk!

 Walking out of the room- PASS NEEDED every time AND need to sign out  Where are these?

When you are absent, it is your responsibility to CHECK OUR CLASS WEBSITE to see what you missed. Then, check the folders in the class to get any handouts from there. Or, simply print them out from the website. If you are confused about what you missed when you were absent, feel free to ask me, but only AFTER you have looked at the website, as everything you need will be up on the website. You will have until Thursday of that week to complete your missed work AND not have it count as late and see a grade for it in the grade book. Otherwise, it will become a O. Turn in to absent/missing/late work bin- write why it is getting turned in now instead of sooner ON THE sheet/HW assignment itself Ex. ABSENT when we turned it in, otherwise considered late! However, you have until the day of the test for that particular unit to still receive 70% of what you earned on that assignment. So, anything that is late will be 30% off! Anything we did in class when you were absent (or even gone for a few minutes) needs to be made up, including bell works, thoughts of the day, notes, etc.

Why you should organize your notebook and class materials AND not throw stuff out!

Where are the absent, late, missing work bins? POINT to them now!

Where are the folders with extra handouts from class? POINT to them now!

When we are having class discussions, raise your hand to be called on and actively listen to whoever is speaking. Teacher will give specific instructions when students are to call out answers without first raising their hands. Ask only questions that are relevant to the lesson. Be respectful of all comments and ideas, even if they differ from yours.

The teacher will say, “All eyes on me”, “I need your attention” or I will just start talking and you will have to keep up. When you hear the teacher speaking. 1) stop what you are doing. 2) look at the teacher and listen.

Sometimes, I will use the peace sign and will ask you to do the same to get your attention that way. Let’s practice!

We will always meet in the classroom! Bell work will be completed before we head out! We will walk out as a class to the computer lab. Groups will be assigned prior to going out. Specific jobs will be assigned, so make sure you know what you have to do when you get there. Same rule apply No eating No chewing gum Be careful with your drinks, as drinks are allowed in class! Stay quiet.

I will give you the Thought of the Day. You will need to answer it and then are free to place it in the Thought of the Day bin. Go back to your seat. Put away materials. Make sure desk area is neat and trash is picked up. Push in chairs and proceed quickly and quietly out the door once the bell rings.

Talk with you Why behavior needs to be changed How we can work to solve the problem What will happen should the behavior continue Talk with your parents Especially if you are off task and having side conversations often Taking privileges away Detentions Dean referrals

Gum/food/candy- talk with you, talk with you and taking away of a privilege, contact parents, then 30 minute after school detention- NO exceptions No student breaks the rule for a week- candy on Friday, courtesy of me!

Improper use of phone/headphones- warning, talk, then phone call home, then disciplinary actions Able to hear your music during individual work- privilege suspended that day and next time

Disrupting class- 1 verbal/nonverbal warning, 1 red sticky note on your desk, 2 nd sticky note on your desk- 30 minute after school detention (same or following day ONLY )

You will receive raffle tickets for good behavior, As on tests, etc. Every Friday, you will get a chance to put in your raffle tickets and win prizes Folders Candy Books Pens Etc. Last week of school- finals week- GET LUNCH from Jersey Mike’s

Thank you for following the classroom procedures! This will allow us to have a wonderful, creative, and productive semester in this class with minimal stress and wasted time.

Who has taken Psych 1?

Who has taken both Psych 1 and Psych 2?

Who has never taken an AP class?

Look over the hand out at home!!!

Please do not use my class to work on material for other classes. Please do not try to make up for a missed day by copying notes or whatever during class on the day you get back.

Assignments are due at the beginning of the class period.

If you have an excused absence that you could not anticipate (e.g., illness or family emergency) on the day of a test, a quiz, or an assignment due date, you should be prepared to do or turn in the work on the day you return. If you have an excused absence you know about in advance (e.g., band lesson, college visit, or doctor appointment) make arrangements with me before the absence takes place. It makes a very favorable impression when you are able to keep up despite legitimate absences.

Sign and pass up right away.

1. Although we ALWAYS lock the door FIRST, what can be used to barricade it if necessary? Look around, what can be moved in front of the door if there is time to do so? 2. Once evacuated, how do we get to the rally point? - Auditorium side: Go to the Public Works building - Stadium side: Maintenance Buildings behind the stadium 5. Look around, what can you carry with you to throw at an assailant if ever confronted? If in a lockdown, what things can you have with you to protect yourself and classmates if needed?
