How to create the perfect microtheme For literary analysis

Thesis Statement THE MOST IMPORTANT SENTENCE IN YOUR ESSAY! Every other sentence in the essay relates back to the thesis statement. Always include the author of the book and the title in the thesis. In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the mockingbird serves as a symbol which helps develop a theme.

Thesis Statement=Topic Sentence Introduces the microtheme by indicating book, author and opinion.

CD and CM Think of CD and CM as the peanut butter and jelly in a sandwich. They go well together and create a good flavor. Without the peanut butter, the jelly sandwich won’t be as flavorful.

CD and CM CD=facts and examples that shows the symbol or theme. CM=Your thoughts about how those facts and examples of the theme tie back to the overall thesis statement. You need a BALANCE of CD and CM. Remember, PB and J!

Concluding Sentence Wrap up your microtheme. Briefly summarize it and reiterate the point you were trying to make. For these reasons, symbolism and theme are demonstrated.

One more thing… Remember to always write microthemes in 3 rd person point-of- view. DO NOT use the following words: I, me, my, we, us, our, mine, myself, you, your etc.

REVIEW Top piece of bread in our sandwich=thesis statement. It’s the first thing a reader bites into in a microtheme. CD and CM=PB and J. You need both to make writing balanced and to complete a thought. Without one, the other is not as appealing. Bottom piece of bread in our sandwich=concluding sentence. It’s the end to a perfect bite; the last thing the reader will remember.

Having a balanced paragraph will result in a happy sandwich, one that is appealing to everyone!

Write a “perfect” microtheme You will begin writing microthemes for To Kill a Mockingbird on Thursday. Remember to follow these guidelines in order to write a perfect microtheme and get full credit! Throughout the unit, you will write 3 microthemes that must equal a tic-tac-toe. Let’s look at the purple sheet to review that now.
