The actors in the story, they can be people, animals or even objects like pencils or robots.

The historical moment in time and physical place or location that a story takes place.

The perspective in which a story is told. First Person- the narrator is part of the story Third Person- the narrator is outside looking in 3 types of 3 rd person: 1. Objective- The narrator CANNOT see the thoughts of the characters 2. Limited- The narrator can see the thoughts of only ONE of the characters. 3. Omniscient- The narrator can see the thoughts of the ALL the characters.

 Second Person- The writer is talking to the reader themselves. Uses the pronoun “you”.  Examples:  directions  recipes  Choose Your Own Adventure books

Theme is the main message that The Reader takes away from the story. It can be different to every reader because theme is IMPLIED!!!! It is a little bit like the moral at the end of a fable.

 Plot is the series of events in a story and can be broken down into five parts: -Exposition - Rising Action - Climax - Falling Action - Resolution Plot is always centered around at least one conflict.

 Conflict- The main problem in the story.  Types of Conflicts:  Man vs. Man- A character has a problem with another character in the story  Man vs. Self- A character has a problem within themselves. An internal debate.  Man vs. Nature- A character has a problem with an animal or the weather  Man vs. Society- A character has a problem with the government, societal norms or other big world issues.

 Exposition- Necessary background information about the characters  Rising Action- Events that lead up to the climax  Climax- The highest point of action in the story. Usually has the conflict at its peak.  Falling Action- Events that lead from the conflict to its resolution  Resolution- The solving of a conflict
