Elections and Voting Rap

What is a rap?

A rap is: a kind of popular music in which verses with words that rhyme are spoken and accompanied by a strong beat.

What else have we learned about in the past, either in this class or your past classes, that involve verses and words that rhyme?

A poem is: a piece of writing, often with words that rhyme and have a particular rhythm.

Poem Rap

Rapping for Review! What are the 3 requirements for U.S. presidency, and the requirements we made up together for choosing the president of our class? LET’S PRACTICE:

To be President of Ms. G’s classroom… (To be president of the United States…) the student MUST be a student in Ms. G’s classroom. (the candidate MUST be a native born United States citizen [or abroad, only with parents born in the US].) the student MUST be at least 7 years old. (the candidate MUST be at least 35 years of age or older.) the student MUST be in Ms. G’s class from the very first day of class (or transferred into Ms. G’s class within the first week of school). (the candidate MUST have lived in the United States for at least 14 years.)

Teacher Example: *Words that match in color rhyme with each other! *Turning poems into raps is easy and fun. I will now rap my poem for you! Another example (with sound): So you want to be president, is that true? Well here’s what you’ve got to do: You must be a student of Ms. G’s class, Just like the president must be a native born of the U.S. You have to be at least seven years old, For the president it’s thirty-five so I’m told. Been coming to Ms. G’s class since the first day, As long as he’s lived in the U.S. 14 years the president is on his way.
