IRAC 2 - Peer Edit Get out your IRAC 2 (its due today remember?) Advising a Client…(aka solving the puzzle) Please go to my website and pull up the Web Quest titled “Advising a Client Links” Take 10 minutes and review the linked documents with your partner. You don’t have time to read them completely just skim them What do these sites have in common? 7

Advising A Client Activity – Legal Research This activity is designed to give you a flavor of what it is like to work as a junior associate is a big law firm. You are expected to follow along with the activity (working as a team where necessary). You will need your notes to write a Summative Essay in the form of an advisory letter to a client. That is, you will need to write a letter advising a client on how to proceed in a certain matter. You will be permitted to use your notes. SO TAKE GOOD NOTES. That’s a big part of being a lawyer. 8

Your Advice The essay portion of the Unit 1 test will be to: Write a brief formal letter advising Junior how you recommend proceeding in this matter. It will be written in class (yes you can use your notes) – 40 points You will need to: 1.Tell the client what you think are the issues. 2.Explain the clients options. 3.Explain what court the case may be heard in (Jurisdiction & Venue) 4.Explain the importance of the “amount in controversy” 5.Be real with the client but polite 10
