Christmas in Wales By Clocaenog School

In Wales, on Christmas eve a bearded man wearing red and white goes around children's homes squeezing through the chimney and putting gifts under the Christmas tree or in stockings. He is called Father Christmas or in Welsh, Sion Corn! These are the kind of things children would find under the Christmas tree:

In Wales in school we have a Christmas Concert every year. We act the story of Jesus being born. We dress up as Mary, Joseph, The three kings, shepherds, angels and a donkey!

At Christmas we go round the the village singing Christmas carols. Here are some Christmas carols: Silent Night Silent night, holy night All is calm, all is bright Round yon Virgin Mother and Child Holy Infant so tender and mild Sleep in heavenly peace Sleep in heavenly peace We Three Kings of Orient Are We three kings of Orient are Bearing gifts we traverse afar Field and fountain, moor and mountain Following yonder star Away in the manger Away in a manger, No crib for His bed The little Lord Jesus Laid down His sweet head. All the carols are about Jesus.

On Christmas Day we wake up excited. We open our presents. Some people go to church or chapel. Later on we have Christmas Dinner, in our Christmas dinner we have turkey or duck, roast potatoes, carrots, sprouts, peas, stuffing, apple sauce and gravy. We pull crackers and play games and make a snowman if there is snow but there’s no time for television. Christmas day is very special.

At Christmas children get sacks of presents at the side of their beds. Some are big and some are small. Also at Christmas a big fat man comes down your chimney with a sack full of Presents. His name is Santa Claus In Welsh his name is Siorn Corn.

Most people in Wales decorate their Tree’s for Christmas. They put tinsel and baubles on the Christmas tree to make it look nice and sparkly. Some people put a star or a Angel on top of their Christmas tree.

For Christmas we put up decorations to make our houses look nice. We use Christmas lights, baubles, paper chains bells, tinsel, wreath’s, Christmas trees, Christmas stockings, candy sticks, and chocolate for the tree, holly and candle’s.

You need Christmas lights and tinsel on your walls. Some people put Christmas lights out side their house. And some people put them on December the 1 st. Baubles the most are best thing that you can put on your tree except Christmas lights.
