Partnership Initiative Update Improved communication and collaboration between the government and private sectors will be of benefit to the entire weather enterprise and to the public. A synergistic approach within the weather enterprise will lead to improved products and services and increased visibility.

Visits/Presentations 2006 NWS Western Region Headquarters NWS National Headquarters The Weather Channel – brief introduction Storm-Based Warnings Workshop at Texas A&M 2007 AMS ITS/Surface Transportation Committee Meeting NWS Partners Meeting, AMS – San Antonio NWS Central Region Headquarters …In total, approximately 190 people in attendance from the government and private sectors, academia, and other groups III. Partners Meeting Enhancements Working with Ron Gird and John Simensky on enhancements to Partners Meetings Initial changes were seen in January with the inclusion of the private sector on the agenda Further enhancements were implemented for today, including greater private sector participation Talks are ongoing for future changes III. NWS Partners Website Recent launch of Partners Website at Concept was suggested based on illustration of need at our NWS Headquarters meeting, Nov Today, Mike Gerber will speak more about this III. Projects and Progress

NWS CAP Team We strongly advocate use of CAP (Common Alerting Protocol) for NWS Watch, Warning and Advisory products NWS-lead, cross-sector CAP Team formed, April 2007 Team leader Bob Bunge will present details today III. Projects and Progress

Storm-Based Warnings John Ferree gave us an update this morning We have advocated the launch of SBW, and are participating in cross-sector workshops and discussions as this project evolves Anticipating October 1 launch: SBW will allow providers to better target people in need of warnings, which is of great benefit to the public III. Work with Ken Graham Partnership Project ideas, Ken’s role with the NWS, and opportunities for collaboration Continuing talks about dynamic ideas for strengthening the weather enterprise III. Projects and Progress
