Close your eyes & think about a baby Newborn - “ You are so Cute! ” Smiles - Coos Rolls over - Sits up “ Just Adorable ” Starts to walk - falls down … “ You are so STUPID! Why can ’ t you walk like a normal person! ” Would this happen - no caregiver would still be positive, but sometime during a childhood this does change.

? ? ? ? ? ? Does he give up? Does he get embarrassed when he falls or makes a mistake? Do the parent ’ s quit encouraging him? Does he make excuses?

What is Self-Esteem -Self Concept? TOTAL PICTURE A PERSON HAS OF HERSELF/HIMSELF Combines the traits, values, thoughts, and feelings you have of yourself.

Children are born with 100% self-esteem. Ask a child if they are pretty or handsome and they will probably say “ YES! ” –Clothes & Shoes: new or hand me downs –Hair - body - etc.

Someway, somehow society teaches us to hold back and doubt ourselves a little.
