Playground Equipment Elizabeth Wagner

Problem The problem in this project is to create a set of playground equipment that can be used by children from the ages of 4-6 years old and to be safe and fun at the same time.

Brainstorming/Research I received several ideas for the type of playground I wanted to build. There were several themes I saw like: ships, castles, mountain climbing. I liked the ship theme but also with a mix of mountain climbing. To combine these together is how I got my idea on how to build my equipment.

Constraints Safety – ages 4-6 Original Appeasing Size (easily accessible for toddlers)

Slide and Tunnel Piece This piece is the little slide and the tunnel. The tunnel is located beneath the slide for the kids to play under and hide in and its big enough to still be safe.

Ladder and Slide This is the ladder and slide of my equipment. I used a loft feature to create the slide and a simple rectangular pattern for the rest. The slide is ft. long, and the whole thing is ft. tall.

Bridge and Rock Wall This is the bridge and rock wall that connects the other 2 pieces together. The rock wall is not too tall and plenty safe enough for toddlers to climb(only being 3 ft. tall and 5 ft. long).

Safety Concerns Some safety concerns you might have from this playground is for the slides; if the rails are high enough and safe enough. You might be a little concerned about the rock wall; however, the rocks aren’t going to made with sharp material so incase they do fall, they won’t get hurt.

Improvements To improve this playground equipment I could make the rock wall with some rails to hold onto. Also, I could make the tunnel longer for a better point of fun. A more distinct theme could be present with more detail and entertainment for the toddlers for it to look better.
