Introduction to Keystone Exams East Pennsboro High School

What are the Keystone Exams? End-of-course assessments designed to assess proficiency in subject areas One component of Pennsylvania’s system of high school graduation requirements Also a part of East Pennsboro’s graduation requirements Designed to help districts guide students towards meeting state standards

What Standards Do Keystone Exams Test? In 2013, Pennsylvania adopted the PA Core Standards, which are standards that align with the expectations for success in college and the workplace. The material from the specific course taken at East Pennsboro will align with the exam. Questions include multiple choice and constructed response questions, and open-ended questions.

What Classes Have Keystone Exams? Algebra I (8 th, 9 th, or 10 th grade) For students taking Algebra I Part 1 and Algebra I Part 2, they will take the test in both 9 th and 10 th grade Literature (10 th Grade) Biology (10 th Grade)

2016 Spring Keystone Testing Dates Algebra 1: May 16 th and 17 th Literature: May 18 th and 19 th Biology: May 20 th and 23th

How long is a Keystone Exam? There is no time limit for a student to complete a keystone exam Each exam should take the typical student 2-3 hours in total to complete There are two modules on each test Each module (test session) should take hours to complete

What if I do not pass the exam? If a student fails a Keystone exam, the next year they will participate in a remediation program They then will retake the test the Spring of the following year If a student fails a second time, they will complete a Project Based Assessment
