Draw a picture of what you think the atmosphere looks like.

Layers of the Atmosphere How can we construct the atmosphere layers?

Bun Hamburger Tomato Lettuce Mayonnaise Bun Layers

Materials and Procedures Materials: Unifix cubes: 5 red, 5 yellow, 5 green, and 5 blue, clue card set, and model page. 1.Divide into groups of four. 2.Each student in the group reads their clue card to reconstruct the Unifix cube model. 3.Label the layers and the thickness of the layers.

Discussion What are the four layers of the atmosphere? What layer is the thinnest? What are the three regions between the layers called?

Discussion Which layer has the coldest temperature? Which layer has the warmest temperature?

Earth

Compare the temperatures in each layer. 1.Using the clue cards, to record the temperatures in each layer of the atmosphere. 2.Plot one point for each layer on graph paper and make a line graph. 3.Notice the differences of temperatures in each layer.
