Department Overview 2 Includes RSD NOLA CCSS Implementation Guide

Jawan Alexander Research best practices centered around Common Core Collaborate with State and Local Officials as it relates to Common Core State Standards Design an action plan and update the district’s plan as new research is presented Re-Delivery of CCSS Trainings to school site personnel and district personnel Oversee Curriculum Alignment (Basal Readers and other text books) Assist with aligning Common Core to Pathways and Cluster Meeting Development Assist with Principal, Master Teacher and Teacher development as it relates to Common Core Development of Professional Development by District and Schools Common Core Curriculum Steering Committee (School Site Specialists and Network Staff) Karen Henderson Oversees the development of the MAP testing process for RSD direct run schools Provides MAP training to RSD district personnel Collaborates with NWEA and acts as a liaison between NWEA and RSD Produces, analyzes and presents student data reports Provides CCSS assistance Note: The CCSS Specialist will work collaboratively with other members to guide the implementation of Common Core; The C&A Team will also work with Network Teams to ensure the successful implementation of Common Core.

The final responsibilities of the initial committee (team) was to assist with the re-delivery of the K-1 ELA/Math Overview to K-1 Teachers/MT’s and Basal Alignment.

Committee’s Focus To assist with the development of a successful CCSS model that can be implemented in all RSD NOLA schools. To work as a focus group to assist with the Recovery School District’s successful implementation of the Common Core State Standards and aligned curriculum. Specific Areas of Concentration: Research and Development of the standards and curriculum, resource exposure, training(s) and re-delivery, aligned benchmarks, and timelines.

School Site Implementation of Common Core and Assessment Delivery Plan School Site Leadership Teams will identify 3 tiered curriculum and assessment teams Review suggested ways that CCSS implemented Review Schedule for Trainings and Design In-House Trainings (JEPD, Clusters, PD Days, etc.) Attend Trainings, Hold Debriefing Meetings (with team/school leadership team) and Train Staff Hold Small Group and One- On –One sessions with teachers as necessary Identify Teams CollaborateGame PlanTrainings Monitor Implementation

School Based CCSS Form 1 Distinct Team (with at least 3 members) CCSS Should include: both MT’s School Level Implementation

School Based Achievement Team Model Responsible for submitting necessary reports (calendars, data etc.), presenting information as it relates to the achievement team committee, organizing any necessary PD’s etc., collaborate with the committee to present findings and recommendations to the school site principal and leadership team. Team Captain (i.e., Master Teacher, Reading Specialist) CCSS: Research and promote the development of resource materials aligned to CCSS Team Resource Liaison Responsible for working with the Captain, Master Teachers and Principal to plan meetings, PD’s, trainings, etc. (i.e., achievement calendars) Team Planning Coordinator

Roles and Responsibilities of the School Based Achievement Teams Trainings – Attend all scheduled district wide trainings related to Common Core re-deliver information to teachers – Work collaboratively to inform classroom teachers and staff as it relates to the aforementioned initiative Implementation Plan – Based on information received from the district and other sources, assist in forming a tailor made standards/curriculum/assessment framework for schools that can be used to address specific staff and student needs – Assist Administration and Master Teachers in the development of achievement initiatives (Calendars, Professional Development design, research, whole faculty study groups, re-teaching models, data analysis charts, etc. ) – Coordinate supplemental CCSS staff development opportunities for teachers (not related to District and/or State level trainings) such as 3 rd party trainings, workshops, and the contracting of consultants District/School Site Collaboration – Classroom and Cluster Walkthroughs (using a developed CCSS aligned tool) – Teams will be subject to at least 2-3 debriefing sessions with district personnel throughout the year to discuss topics such as: focus, growth, upcoming trainings, interventions
