Workforce Plan Task: Small Groups, write a Workforce Plan for a teacher at AIS (also known as an HR Plan) Due Thursday (for report card commentary)

Objectives Explain the common steps in the process of recruitment Distinguish the following types of training: on the job training, induction and mentoring, off the job training, cognitive training and behavioural training Distinguish the following types of appraisal: formative, summative, 360-degree feedback and self-appraisal Describe the common steps in the processes of dismissal and redundancy

Information Pages 98 to 106 Oxford describe a workforce plan You know what a high school teacher does but you may not know about the hiring/termination process – Internet (e.g. google “Search Associates”) – Interview (e.g. talk to teachers) Divide the task into parts with each member doing their part Your goal is to learn what a workforce plan is, how it works, and why it is useful Submit what you’ve learned on Thursday

A Workforce Plan has 4 parts Recruitment – (identification, application and selection of the right teacher) Training – (Induction, on-the-job and off-the job) Appraisal – (performance review process) Termination, dismissal and redundancy – (minimize impact of loss)

Recruitment Starts with a job description Identify skills and qualifications needed How to find the person? (Internal or external) What does the applicant need to submit? Who chooses the pool of candidates? (criteria) Who makes the final decision?

Training What are the training needs, if any – Induction – On-the-job – Off-the-job – Cognitive training – Behavioural training

Appraisal How is performance level to be ascertained? Remember – Must be non-threatening – Must not impact pay – Must involve positive feedback – Must be separate to any disciplinary process

Termination How can a business (school) minimize the impact of employee turnover? What processes exist at AIS to smooth the exit of employees?
