Visions and Strategies around the Baltic Sea (VASAB) is an intergovernmental forum for co-operation of ministers responsible for spatial planning and development of Belarus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, the Russian Federation and Sweden. 20 YEARS WITH VASAB

VASAB unites 11 countries of the Baltic Sea Region

VASAB was founded in August 1992 at the Conference at Ministerial level in Karlskrona, which decided to work out a document "Vision and Strategies for the Baltic Sea Region 2010". The work was successfully completed two years later, when the Third Ministerial Conference in Tallinn adopted the Final Report under the title "VASAB Towards a Framework for Spatial Development in the BSR" (so called "Tallinn Report"). The vision and strategy was focused on the 4 spatial planning elements: Urban network of international importance; Effective and sustainable links between cities; Areas supporting dynamism and quality of life; Comprehensive spatial planning in function. VASAB Mission is to prepare policy options for the territorial development of the Region and to provide a forum for exchange of know-how on spatial planning and development between the Baltic Sea countries VASAB Mission

exchange of experiences and best spatial planning practices for sustainable development of the territories, settlements and cities; developing a joint approach to maritime spatial planning, based on the methodology of integrated management of maritime activities; exchange of experiences and best practices in the development of rural-urban relations and partnerships; supporting actions to ensure accessible transport and energy networks in the regions; studying of cross-border co-operation for improving policies and cross-border coordination mechanisms, providing strategic direction and development of mutually beneficial cooperation instruments between the Baltic Sea, especially in the area of ​​spatial (territorial) planning.
