Emphasis on airport network and service level: –The proposed criteria and classification of airport network to be used only as assisting tools when evaluating the airport network. Vision of the strategy: –Air traffic is supporting the growth and development possibilities and competitiveness of the Finnish economy. –Therefore, air traffic should be developed in a sustainable way in collaboration of public (Government) and private sector (industry) with the aim at finding growth possibilities. 6

www.lvm.fi Air traffic forecast for Finland 2030 ,3 million passengers at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. –2020: 20 million passengers and 2030: 23 million passengers. The amount of domestic air traffic passengers is continuously decreasing. About million passengers altogether through the Finnish airports in Year 2013 dark for air traffic: –Altogether 1 % decrease in amount of air traffic passengers. –Growth continued in Helsinki-Vantaa (2,8 %) and Rovaniemi Airport. –Decline in other airports: Turku (28,6 %), Pori (25,7 %), Jyväskylä (22,5 %) ja Kokkola-Pietarsaari (20,8 %). 9

www.lvm.fi 13 How the strategy preparations will continue? Four alternative scenarios on airport network: –Business as usual scenario (BAU: 25+2) –Helsinki-Vantaa Airport will be incorporated into own company and separated from the airport network: abandoning from the airport network principle. –Two alternatives on reducing maintenance responsibilities of Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. Impact assessment: –Impacts on regional accessibility. –Impacts on national, regional and local economy. –Impacts on air carriers, Finavia and other companies. –Other social and environmental impacts. Ministers will consider budgetary impacts in March Consolidating various themes into one balanced report: final report adopted by the end of year 2014.
www.lvm.fi 14 Conclusions The international air traffic will continue to grow in the long run (approx. 3-5 % annually). Transit traffic between Asia and Europe is also expected to grow in the future. How Finland could benefit from the growth? –How the Finnish airports and air carriers could receive their share of the growing international air traffic volumes? –How the Finnish economy and passengers could benefit from the air traffic?
