St Mary's Church is the largest and "stateliest" parish church in Leicestershire.
St Mary’s Church…. PRESENTATION MEETINGS DCC – 3 rd September CONGREGATION – 13 th September PCC – 17 th September
St Mary’s Church…. Is open nearly every day of the year, Is the ‘go to’ place for Sunday worship, midweek & civic services, baptisms, weddings, funerals and special services for the town, borough and deanery, Hosts music and other events of local, diocesan, regional and national significance, Provides a space for prayer and reflection.
However… Floor Is in poor state of repair, Changes in levels makes accessibility tricky for anyone with mobility issues or moving furniture etc. Organ Is in need of URGENT repair. Ambience Gloomy interior, Mixture of liturgical furniture, Radiators around the walls, people in the middle. Facilities For providing refreshments are poor, Toilets are in the Samworth Centre, For crèche or quiet meetings are very limited, Insufficient number of power outlets around the church, Audio visual & sound systems need upgrading, Storage space for ‘housekeeping’ equipment is limited. Experience Unwelcoming from the outside, Draughty, Poor sound quality.
What has been done Sub-committee have looked at all issues and discussed possible solutions - at length, Ideas and plans have been prepared by Architect, Sought consent from statutory authorities and amenity groups – on an informal basis, Positive response from DAC to most proposals except those which would affect the visual image of the church interior.
