Remus By: John Walker

Introduction to Remus  His name is “Remus”  His mother’s name is “Rhea Silvia”(See slide 4)  His brother’s name is “Romulus,” who is his twin brother.

 Their uncle, had abandoned them to die because he knew they were going to be kings but he wanted to be king,  They were found by a female wolf. The wolf suckled them.  The twins, still ignorant of their true origins, were natural leaders.  Each acquired many followers. When they discovered the truth of their birth, they killed Amulius.

The Shepherd…  The two boys were found by a shepherd.  Faustulus, the shepherd, and his wife raised the boys. They grew up to be brave and bold.

Facts  Rhea Silvia conceived and gave birth to the twins Romulus and Remus, claiming that the god Mars had discovered her in the forest and seduced her. After Amulius had found out, he imprisoned her.  They were sent down the river when they were still infants  This picture above is where they would live.

 One of the stories of Remus death. Remus criticized Romulus wall and in a final insult to the new city and its founder alike, he leaped over it. Romulus killed him, saying "So perish every one that shall here after leap over my wall".

Facts about Remus and his brother, Romulus!  Romulus and Remus are represented on a number of Roman coins, usually as babies suckling at the she-wolf.

 The reason Rome is called Rome is because when Remus was killed, his brother named the city after himself.
