Women’s efforts to support the war effort in factories during WWI contributed to rise of Women’s Suffrage in Western democracies – Right to vote granted to women in the United States, Britain, Germany, Sweden, and Austria

Impact of WWI was reflected in art and literature – Writers, artists, musicians in the 1920’s expressed a loss of hope, fear the future, and rejection of former rules and values – Became known as the “Lost Generation”

Writer Ernest Hemingway expressed a loss of faith in humanity Poet T.S. Eliot portrayed the modern world as empty and barren Artists tries to avoid reproducing the real world – Dada movement and surrealist movement – Experimented with color and distorted shapes

European nations attempted to improve relations between nations in the 1920’s – wanted to avoid future wars
