Landscape analysis of MNCH, FP and HIV/AIDS Service Delivery Integration in sub-Saharan Africa

Background & Rationale Integration of MNCH, FP & HIV/AIDS services widely recognized as critical to ensuring universal access Evidence on the benefits of integration is mixed There is however emphasis on integration in global agreements & protocols, & many SSA countries have developed integration policies/strategies Gates Foundation has made relatively few investments in this area Foundation commissioned AFIDEP to do a rapid landscape analysis - Dec 2013-May 2014

Purpose Provide an understanding of the landscape of MNCH, FP & HIV/AIDS burden & integration efforts in Eastern & Southern Africa Inform the Foundation’s future potential engagement & investments in the area

Objectives 1.Describe current research, scale up activities & best practices in integration of MNCH, FP & HIV/AIDS 2.Identify the major implementers & funders, & describe what they are implementing & supporting 3.Define existing challenges & gaps in policies, programs & service delivery, & ways to address them 4.Identify geographies & populations with the highest burden but least access to services 5.Identify entry points & describe potential role for Gates Foundation

Methods 1.Review the Foundation’s strategies & investments in MNCH, FP & HIV/AIDS in SSA 2.Review literature on the status of MNCH, FP & HIV/AIDS integration in SSA 3.Map the burden of MNCH, FP & HIV/AIDS, & gaps in service provision in Eastern & Southern Africa 4.Conduct four-country assessments of the status of MNCH, FP & HIV/AIDS, service delivery gaps, & interventions coverage
