CULTURAL GEOGRAPHY OF NORTH AFRICA: POPULATION AND CULTURE

Essential Questions: How has physical geography affected where people have settled in North Africa, Southwest and Central Asia? Learning Target: IWBAT explain how North Africa’s culture is unique. Formative Assessment(s): What are three aspects of North African culture?

BELLWORK Write down anything you know about North African culture. Reminder, aspects of culture include: Social organization, Customs and traditions, Languages, Arts and literature, Religion, Forms of government, Economic systems, Food and clothing, Music and dance

ANCIENT EGYPT FUN FACTS Both Egyptian men and women wore makeup. The eye-paint was usually green (made from copper) or black (made from lead). The Egyptian alphabet contained more than 700 hieroglyphs ! One popular game was 'Senet', which was played for over 2000 years! The game involved throwing sticks (in the same way we throw dice) to see how many squares to move your piece forward on the board. The Ancient Egyptians invented lots of things we still use today, such as paper, pens, locks and keys and toothpaste!
